It is located in Torre del Puerco, right next to the Hotel Hideaway (formerly the Barceló Hotel), and halfway to Coconovo Beach. Let’s say that it has become the revelation of the summer of 2020 in Chiclana de la Frontera. It is managed by a well-known hospitality group from the capital of Spain “azoteagrupo”, which manages restaurants such as Azotea in the Círculo de Bellas Artes.
The place was an old Civil Guard barracks, abandoned in the last 30 years, when it stopped being a lookout post for the benemérita. More than 20 years ago it was used as a hostel for the Red Cross Youth summer camps in the province of Cádiz.
Its careful renovation is striking, keeping intact the foundations of what was the Civil Guard barracks, but especially its design, a work of art. It has a conference and exhibition space, which is complemented by the rental of nautical equipment. But it is actually a restaurant that is also used as a cocktail bar.
Its cuisine stands out, although it could be better, surely due to the first steps of the season. I recommend the grilled artichokes with payoyo cheese, exquisite, as well as the grilled octopus. It has a specific menu of dishes whose main base is tuna. Good rice dishes, highlighting the creamy rice with prawns. You will be surprised by the price of its dishes, but let’s say that for the place it is worth it. Just one piece of advice, don’t order the shrimp omelettes, don’t even think about it, nothing like the real thing.
What I would like to highlight are its desserts, spectacular, especially the cheesecake and the chocolate brownie with coffee ice cream. Don’t forget to order them.
And I would also like to highlight its service, spectacular, especially Giorgia, the waitress who served us. The price of the wines from the area is totally exorbitant, although the one we tried, Hacienda de Parrilla Alta, stands out, at a more or less affordable price.
As I was saying, the best thing about the place is its location for enjoying its sunsets and evenings. On weekends you can enjoy its concerts on the terrace of the barracks.
And at the end of dinner, don’t forget to have a gin and tonic or one of its wonderful cocktails in its well-kept patio. The DJ’s music stands out, very well done with the environment and with the people who visit it.
A recommended place to visit.
