Sancha Perez Olive Oil Mill Winery

2 Jan 2025

Since I had the opportunity to try one of their wines at the El Campero restaurant in Barbate, I have not missed the opportunity to visit their winery and buy their wines in their shop.

The first thing to highlight is the existence of a winery in the El Palmar area. They not only have vineyards, but also olive trees. They have been producing organic wine and oil since 2008, thus highlighting their way of making wines as a sustainable, healthy and environmentally friendly way of life. Founded by Ramón Iglesias, a native of the same region. It is defined as a family farm that is committed to agro-food processing.

They do not use chemical products such as herbicides, fertilizers and pesticides. In addition, soil fertilization is carried out using various techniques. All these practices are endorsed by the CAAE certifying entity.

Organic products are more beneficial for health, more nutritious and free of preservatives.

They process and sell oils, red and white wines, vinegars (with Pedro Ximénez and lavender), and jams.

They also offer free guided tours, open to all types of visitors. More than twenty different varieties of olive trees grow in the olive museum. During my visit, I had the opportunity to first visit the olive mill and see the olive oil production process, and then visit the winery, paying special attention to the production of white and red wines. Rafa, an agricultural engineer who works at the farm, explained the process to me in great detail.

As a recommendation, I would like to focus on the wine that brought me to the winery, the Sauvignon Blanc. It is not a cheap wine, and its price has gone up compared to the previous harvest, but it is worth trying. The white Palomino is also well-known for lovers of this type of grape from the area.

As for the reds, I cannot recommend them because I have not tried them, but the Merlot-Petit Verdot Crianza and the Petit Verdot 100% Crianza are particularly noteworthy. They also have a young Petit-Verdot wine that is worth trying.
