Salinas Santa Teresa

2 Jan 2025

It is an environmental project developed in the Natural Park of the Bay of Cadiz, very close to one of our villas “Alba Sea Villa”. It has been one of the most important novelties during the summer 2023. And it is a tourism project financed with European Funds.

The project is mainly based on the recovery of aquaculture and saliculture (salt processing). Due to the low economic value of these products, it became necessary to implement activities that complement and are compatible with the cultivation of fish and salt, and at the same time guarantee the sustainable economic balance of the rural environment and meet the requirements of the “Blue Economy”.

Among other activities you will be able to enjoy: Guided tours of the Natural Park to learn about the flora and fauna of the marshes (with an estimated duration of 60 minutes for 8 people), Marsh Interpretation Centre for the dissemination of its history, culture, trades and gastronomy of the salt marshes, Gastronomic Space and Sea Baths and Natural Thalassotherapy.

The Interpretation Centre is located in an old saltworks house whose structure has been fully preserved to show the saltworks culture.

“El Estero” is the name of the gastronomic space dedicated to the tasting of products from the estuaries of the Santa Teresa salt works. The estuary is the main protagonist of the menu. Some of the products can be seen during a visit to the saltworks. It is traditional Chiclana cuisine but with a touch of the avant-garde. All the products on offer are fresh and sustainable.

The starters include prawn and lobster salad, grilled prawn and avocado cocktail, and sea bass tacos with marinated chipote mayonnaise and pico de gallo, and to finish off, order the tosta de lisa de estero with manteca colorada.

Don’t forget some of the most exquisite seafood portions such as grilled or boiled sea bream, clams in seafood sauce or with garlic, prawns and lobster. And as a good restaurant in the area, it also has portions of fried cuttlefish, shrimp omelettes and croquettes, we recommend the sea bass with salicornia mayonnaise.

Bluefin tuna from the almadraba also features on the menu, and we especially recommend the tarar and the samosas. If what you fancy is a good fish from the estuary, you have your choice of sole, gilthead bream, sea bass and sea bass. And if you are a rice lover, don’t leave without trying the socarrat de carabinero and the juice of its heads.

For dessert, we recommend our torrija filled with hazelnut cream, a real treat.

In summer you can enjoy nautical activities such as kayaking, paddle surfing and pedal boats on the marshy beach.

And we especially recommend its saline spa. The circuit has two hypersaline pools, one of magnesium and the other of mud. An ideal option for relaxing and relieving stress. The seawater and salt have calming properties that help to reduce muscle tension. In addition, the minerals present in seawater have detoxifying properties. And if you feel like it you can book a relaxing massage with mud, it relieves stress and muscle tension, improves blood circulation and nourishes and beautifies the skin.
