Ruta por el Parque Natural de la Breña (Barbate)

2 Jan 2025

It is one of the most incredible places in the Bay of Cádiz. It is located in the municipality of Barbate. The site is spectacular and highly recommended for a route along some of its trails. The turquoise color of the sea merges with the green of the forests and the incredible cliffs, from where you can see some of the paradisiacal beaches of Cádiz, such as the Caños de Meca and its secret coves.

The Breña and Marismas de Barbate natural park has about 5,000 hectares. During the route you will be able to discover the wonderful Breña pine forest, famous for its landscapes, its pine forests, cliffs and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.

This incredible and unknown place is located halfway between the Bay of Cádiz and the Strait of Gibraltar.

The place has become a paradise for nature lovers, but especially for fans of hiking and cycling routes. Although the place is also widely visited by photography enthusiasts, due to the bird watching in the area and its spectacular nature pictures.

In the area we recommend visiting the Torre del Tajo. It is a 16th century watchtower that was built to monitor the coasts of Cádiz next to the Trafalgar Lighthouse and some others, which reach the town of Chiclana de la Frontera. The Tower’s viewpoint is crowned like a cliff more than one hundred meters high.

You have many access points to the Park, we recommend entering through one of the accesses on the road that goes from Barbate to Caños de Meca and that surrounds the part of the park closest to the cliffs. Another route could be to start in the Caños de Meca area, and thus enjoy the views by car of the descent from the Park to Caños de Meca.

We remind you that parking in Caños de Meca is not easy and you must arrive early if you want to access one of the parking spaces, especially in the months of July and August, the time of greatest influx of vacationers.

We hope you enjoy the route.
