Medina Sidonia

2 Jan 2025

Medina Sidonia is located 300 meters above sea level, just 20 minutes from the Cadiz coast, it has a cultural heritage of more than 3,000 years of history. Its privileged location in the province of Cádiz allows you to see from the Cádiz mountain to Jerez countryside through the entire bay, offering a spectacular panoramic view.

For this reason, our Phoenician, Roman and Muslim ancestors, among others, decided to settle in Medina-Sidonia. Besides the historical monuments, there are many recipes that come from these civilizations. The best known are Christmas sweets, such as “amarguillos”, brown cakes or “alfajores”. The historic center is walled, with three doors that give way to the city.

At Christmas the town comes alive, it has one of the most beautiful living nativity scenes in Spain with more than half a thousand extras offering a tour of its cobbled streets. The economic engines of the town are confectionery, agriculture and livestock.
