This restaurant is located in the La Janda region, in the town of Medina-Sidonia. Its most exquisite specialty is the classic offer of local stews, such as tagarninas stews, asparagus stews or scrambled eggs. It is a family business run by Sebastián Gautier Quintero.
The care with which they pamper the dishes and the magnificent treatment of the waiters have managed to categorize it as one of the best restaurants in the town, along with the La Duquesa restaurant and the Hotel-Restaurante El Duque.
It is a large establishment that has its own parking. It has three rooms, one of them with a bar, where you can have tapas in non-COVID times. The other two rooms have high ceilings simulating a hut. It has a varied wine cellar, with both local and national wines. It is not the first time I have eaten at this restaurant, but I will be brief with the recommendations of dishes.
On this last occasion, I tried the grilled mushrooms and the octopus salad, a very successful starter, without too much mayonnaise and the octopus cooked to perfection. On other previous occasions I also had the partridge pâté and the scrambled asparagus, typical dishes of the region.
The main dishes to highlight are the stone-cooked meats, I usually go for the La Janda veal entrecote. I like the meat rare and to cook it a little on the stone provided by the waiters. Also highly recommended are the roasted goat leg and the venison in lean sauce, among other game meats.
Another variety of main dishes are the seasonal stews, at this time of year people fancy home-made stews. This restaurant is ideal for tasting authentic dishes like those of yesteryear such as cabbage or oxtail, among others.
The desserts, although they are completely homemade, are not a strong point of this restaurant, so since you are in Medina-Sidonia I recommend you stop by one of their exquisite pastry shops and watch the sunset with a coffee.
The Mesón is located on the Medina to Chiclana Highway, km 2.5. You do not have to enter Medina. We recommend you call and make a reservation. Phone 956 41 13 47.
