Atenas Playa has a new location, and it has been one of the main surprises of summer 2021.
Until last year, this beach bar was located in the Novo Sancti Petri area, almost at the height of the Torre del Puerto, very close to the Coconovo and the Cuartel del Mar, just behind the Riu Hotel.
In recent years it had become a reference point for enjoying the sunsets on Playa de la Barrosa. Its place has been taken by the new Nova Sunset beach bar from the Casa del Farero family.
Surrounded by pine trees, its new location in Torre Bermeja has made it a magical, idyllic, original place, suitable for enjoying the sunset on summer nights, and especially for relaxing and letting yourself go.
Torre Bermeja is a tower on a small cliff on the first track of La Barrosa beach, currently included in a private estate. It was part of the coastal surveillance tower system. It was built by Philip II in the 16th century to defend the Andalusian coast from pirates.
It has a direct entrance to the Barrosa beach and its views are spectacular and privileged. From this place you can see miles and miles of fine sand up to the Roche coves.
Throughout the day you can enjoy its extensive cocktail menu. If you go for dinner, it has an extensive menu with starters such as classic nachos, a cheese board and homemade salad with shrimp. We recommend the Athens salad and the XXL cannelloni of oxtail and cheek, it is quite filling so you should not order too much food. In addition, there are the classic fried foods of the area (anchovies, dogfish, cuttlefish and shrimp omelettes). The menu highlights the squid and salmon tartar. If you don’t want to take any risks, you should go for the famous Athens burger from Retinta.
In terms of sweets, they stick to the classics: carrot cake, apple pie and milk torrija with ice cream.
But what surprises most is their show. Every evening from 4:30 p.m. Lorena Kej and Javi Molina, under the title of Sunset Ritual, delight all customers with the best music. In the months of July and August, local music groups join in every day, as well as extraordinary music by the best DJs to liven up the summer afternoons and evenings.
